We are grateful for the recognition we have received over the past 15 years.

Regenerative Tourism as a Bridge between Cultures and Nature

Since 1992, the world has come together every year to commemorate the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, a date proclaimed by the United Nations, which on this occasion invites us to reflect on the theme: "Leaving No One Behind: Indigenous Peoples and the Call for a New Social Contract". This day not only urges us to recognize the historical injustices and violence suffered by indigenous peoples, but also to celebrate their resilience, their tireless struggles and their invaluable contribution to the decolonization of our nations in Latin America.

The concept of a "new social contract" proposed by the United Nations is a call to reimagine our societies. It is an unwritten agreement that fosters cooperation for the common good, a compact that has historically been dominated by the most powerful voices. Today, however, humanity is moving towards inclusion and equity, seeking to right the wrongs of the past and generate reparations from the political, social and economic arenas.

In Mexico, indigenous peoples face challenges that resonate loudly. Of the many indigenous groups that enrich our nation, many are at risk of physical and cultural extermination, victims of voracious economic interests and migration. Often discriminated against and unprotected, these communities endure policies that do not adequately respect or recognize their rights, much less their autonomy.

The call for a new social contract in Mexico urges us to redefine the relationship between the State and indigenous peoples, recognizing the historical violence since colonization and how the State's lack of protection has intensified conflicts in their territories. It is crucial to recognize their right to autonomy, to prior consultation, and to guarantee respect and support for the exercise of their own government, valuing their ancestral knowledge and practices as a compass towards truly sustainable development.

In this International Day of Indigenous Peoples, invites society to reflect deeply on the inequality and violence faced by these communities. The road to peace and justice passes through the recognition and rejection of this violence and the advance towards a new commitment that promotes non-repetition and the protection of their rights and cultures.

In this context, regenerative tourism emerges as a powerful tool for the economic and cultural development of indigenous peoples. Beyond simple sustainability, regenerative tourism focuses on revitalizing and recovering ecosystems and improving the quality of life of local communities. Today, promoting tourism means valuing and preserving our cultural and natural diversity, allowing indigenous communities to actively participate in the design and management of tourism projects that respect and enrich their traditions and ancestral knowledge.

Promoting tourism that not only minimizes environmental impact, but also contributes to the restoration of ecosystems and the strengthening of cultures, can be key to building a more equitable society that respects its roots.

By integrating regenerative tourism into the development agenda, Mexico can ensure that indigenous communities are beneficiaries, but also leaders in heritage conservation and economic development. This approach strengthens the social fabric, boosts the local economy and contributes to the long-term sustainability of indigenous territories.

At La Mano del Mono, we not only promote sustainable tourism, but we go further, integrating regenerative principles that seek to restore and revitalize both ecosystems and the well-being of local communities. Through the implementation of our Market Ready Tourism ModelWe encourage tourism projects that respect and celebrate the biodiversity and cultural traditions of Mexico and Latin America.

For us, tourism is an act of regeneration, where each visitor contributes to the well-being of our natural areas and the people who inhabit them. This deep commitment is our way of building a future in which respect for nature and cultures is at the heart of development.
