Healing the territory, strengthening communities and regenerating the economy
We live in a world where environmental, social and economic crises are more intertwined than ever. From the accelerating loss of biodiversity to growing social inequalities, the warning signs are everywhere. In this context, regenerative tourism emerges as a powerful response: not only to mitigate damages, but also to actively healing ecosystems, empower local communities and revive economies in a sustainable and resilient manner.
A global call: the urgency of regeneration
According to the World Economic Forum50% of the world's GDP depends directly on nature. However, about 10 million hectares of forests are lost each year (FAO, 2022), and poorly managed tourism can contribute significantly to this degradation.
On the other hand, data from the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) show that tourism represents 10% of global employment, and has the potential to redistribute wealth, make cultures visible and revalue local knowledge, if implemented with awareness.
Regenerative tourism goes beyond being sustainable. It is not only about reducing negative impacts, but also about create net positive impacts. It is an invitation to change the focus: from consuming destinations to co-creating future.
What does it mean to regenerate from tourism?
It implies acting from a systemic vision, where the ecological, the social, the cultural and the economic are interconnected. It means that a trip not only leaves a beautiful photo, but also:
Restores ecosystems and protects biodiversity.
Strengthens local economies distributing income fairly.
Revitalizes cultures and promotes the transmission of community knowledge.
Connects people with a purpose, raising awareness of their role on the planet.
La Mano del Mono: two ways to regenerate while traveling
At La Mano del Mono we have been co-creating regenerative tourism for more than 15 years, hand in hand with local communities, strategic allies and committed entrepreneurs. Today, two of our business models are accelerating this transformation in Mexico and Latin America:
Market Ready: preparing community-based tourism to compete with purpose
Market Ready is a model that strengthens community-based tourism ventures so that they are market-ready - but without losing their soul or their territorial roots. We help them offer authentic, well-structured and regenerative experiences that connect with conscious travelers.
Thanks to this model, more than 100 community enterprises in Mexico and Latin America have improved their sustainability, profitability and resilience, incorporating practices such as:
Participatory environmental management
Development of identity narratives
Strategic planning with a regenerative approach
Linkage with ethical and responsible markets
"Market Ready helped us professionalize our tourism while still being ourselves." - Aníbal, El Higuerón Farm
Natura Reserve: living conservation and local development in one place
Reserva Natura is our reservation software to promote sustainable, accessible and profitable tourism for natural areas that will allow you to get a 360° view of what is happening in the destination. It is not a destination or an application: management software where conservation is part of the daily life of the communities.
Reserva Natura offers incredible possibilities for managers of public natural areas, owners of private natural areas that receive tourism and/or community-based businesses that receive tourism in their natural areas, such as:
Load capacity monitoring
Visitor awareness
Increased income for the operation of the area and its conservation
Informed decision making
It is a complete software that provides a space for learning, innovation and connection, where tourists, communities and partners build together a new tourism narrative.
We join a movement that is already underway
We are not alone in this transformation. Regenerative tourism is growing around the world, with networks, alliances and projects that are committed to profound change.
From La Mano del Mono, we add our experience and commitment so that more destinations and communities can:
To be the protagonists of the development they want
Regenerate their ecosystems and economies
Inspiring travelers and strategic allies
And you, what role do you play in this transformation?
As a traveler, organization, government or ally, every decision counts. Choose experiences that leave a positive footprint, support community projects, connect with initiatives such as Market Ready or Reserva Natura and be part of the change.
Today more than ever, tourism can be a force for healing.
